Dr. Arthur Mu-sen Kao, Professor, received his Ph.D. in Art History from
the University of Kansas. His area of specialization is Asian Art. His
dissertation is The Life and Art of Li-K'an (Ann Arbor, 1980).
Dr. Kao has published five books in art history:
The Essence of Sung Dynasty Painting-A research of Sung painting, Taipei Modern Art Museum Press, Taipei, Taiwan, 1994;
A Hisitory of Indian Art, National Institute of Compilation and Translation, Taipei, Taiwan, 1993;
Chung-kuo Hui-hua Ssu-hsiang Shih (The History of Thought in Chinese Painting), San-min Shu-chu, Taipei, Taiwan, 1992 (This book won the Gold-Cauldron award presented by the Government of the Republic of China.);
A Comprehensive Study of Western Zhou Bronzes, Hua-kang Publisher (Chinese Culture University Press), Taipei, 1986;
Paintings of the Five Dynasties and Northern Sung, Wen-shih-che publisher,
Taiepei, 1982.
Dr. Kao has three book manuscripts in press at this moment. He also writes
two "readers" for his courses "Art of Asia" and "East
Meets West in Art". Both are available at the SJSU Print Shop. Dr.
Kao also published more than ninety articles. In addition, Dr. Kao is
a painter and a poet.
