SJSU Glass Arts

Welcome to the SJSU Glass Arts site!

Glass Arts is part of the Undergraduate/Graduate Spatial Arts Program in the SJSU Department of Art and Art History.

Our enthusiastic community uses glass as a medium to define new methods of interpreting the physical, temporal, and intellectual world. We explore all aspects of glass in the arts including blowing, hot glass casting, kiln casting, fusing, multi-media, sculpting, kinetic, sandblasting, and cold working, including cutting, grinding, and polishing. Glass work is a group activity and we work together to increase everyone's knowledge and skill levels. Whether you're a beginner or an advanced student or simply want to incorporate glass into your art, you'll find yourself quickly addicted to the creative potential of glass!

Glass Arts welcomes undergraduate, graduate, and post-baccalaureate students. We are all members of the SJSU Glass Artist Guild, a guild that creates glass art and functional items that we sell to raise money to fund Glass Arts. Our Guild provides scholarships to our members to study glass at other schools including the Pilchuck Glass School and the Pittsburgh Glass Center. The Guild also pays for members' participation in industry conferences, including the Glass Art Society's annual conference and the Bullseye-sponsored BECon.

Guest artists and the supportive glass community in the San Francisco Bay Area help us to extend our knowledge of glass and the glass arts. We work closely with the artists at the Bay Area Glass Institute to develop new techniques and promote the appreciation of glass arts in the community.

We work very closely with SJSU Ceramics, other areas in Spatial Arts, photography, and graphics to expand the use of each area in the creative process.
