Shelby received two undergraduate degrees simultaneously in 2000, a Bachelors of Architecture and BFA in Design-Ceramics for the University of Kansas. Later in 2000 Shelby went to work at Jun Kaneko Studios in Omaha Nebraska. Where he worked as an apprentice and Assistant to the Artist for two years. Shelby then team-taught an interim course at Hastings College Jan. 2003. Shelby received his MFA in Spatial Art from San Jose State University in 2006. Where he studied with Stan Welsh, David MiddleBrook and David Anderson. Shelby took over the full time Ceramics and Glass Technician position at San Jose State University in Aug. 2006. Shelby also teaches at Foothill and De-Anza Community colleges.
