The CADRE Laboratory for New Media is an interdisciplinary academic and research program dedicated to the experimental use of information technology and art. CADRE in conjunction with the School of Art and Design facilitates the MFA in Digital Media Art program. CADRE’s theoretical and critical orientation provides a conceptual context in which artistic and scholarly activities are defined. Distinguished faculties representing interdisciplinary interest have created a unique academic environment dedicated to envisioning the cultural frontier. Faculty and students have participated in the evolution of media technology for over 20 years with works exhibited nationally and internationally. Students specialize across digital art practices including computer imaging, information visualization, mapping, interface design, database, networks, mobile computing, interactive installation and performance art. MFA students have access to individual studios and departmental/university facilities including extensive fabrication and computing resources.

CADRE offers a variety of programs involving exhibitions, symposia and visiting artists which compliment the academic program.
CADRE and San Jose State University are visionary partners in the ZeroOne San Jose biennale festival. The CADRE Laboratory for New Media is located in the School of Art and Design at San Jose State University, the oldest public institution of higher education in California. The city of San Jose is in the heart of Silicon Valley and reflects the entrepreneurial spirit of the region.
